All Souls Church

Since 2012, members of our collaborative/team have worked with the All Souls Unitarian Church of Washington, D.C. to conceptualize, design, permit, and implement an outdoor community terrace with a comprehensive, urban stormwater management system.

Specific design elements for the historic renovation and retrofit include a 4,000 square foot green roof / blue roof garden terrace; a 2,200 gallon rainwater harvesting system that provides water for toilet flushing; bio-retention tree planters; green roof panels, and permeable pavement systems.

The stormwater system now generates revenue for the historic congregation as part of the DDOE Stormwater Retention Credit trading program. Completed in 2015, the site now serves as an example of a functional urban landscape in a historic setting in the midst of the nation’s capital.
